What is Vitamin D? An Overview of its Role in the Human Body

In the intestines, calcitriol enhances the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the diet into the bloodstream. It also stimulates the reabsorption of calcium in the kidneys, reducing its excretion in urine. In the bones, calcitriol stimulates the release of calcium from the bones into the bloodstream when levels are low. These actions ensure that the body maintains adequate levels of calcium and phosphorus for various physiological processes.
